5 key stats from the semifinal match between Nigeria and Mexico

The Nigerian Golden Eaglet continued their dominance in the FIFA U-17 championship as they came from behind to defeat Mexico (4-2) in a thrilling encounter to secure their place in the final for a record eight time.


Here are five key stats from the semifinal match between Nigeria and Mexico


1) Eaglets qualify for 8th U-17 world cup final .

After dispatching  Australia (6-0) with ease in the quarterfinals, the vibrant Golden Eaglets came from behind to defeat Mexico 4-2 to secure a place in the final, thanks to goals from: Osimhen, Nwakali, Okwonkwo and Ebere.

2) Mexico became the first team to score the first goal in a semifinal match against the Golden Eaglet.

The record was previously jointly held by Florent Sinama Pongolle (France) and Souleymane Coulibaly (Cote d’Ivoire).

5) Nigeria May be the First Country To Win The Tournament Back To Back

The Eaglets, who are also the defending champions,  will be hoping to defeat Mali in an all-African final on Sunday at the Estadio Sausalito Vina Del Mar.
