1) Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh and his wife during the Queen’s visit to Nigeria in 1956. His dress is in flowing garments with a chain a yard long being held by a boy.


Chief Festus Sam Okotie-Eboh (1919-1966) was one of the most flamboyant Nigerian politician of his time.  He was a minister for finance under the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa administration.

Okotie-Eboh was Born to Urhobo parents from Uwherun, he adopted the Itsekiri as his tribe after marriage into an Itsekiri family.

He was by far the most expensively well-dressed Nigeria political figure of his time.  He has an exquisite taste in traditional African wear and adopted the Western dressing. Okotie-Eboh was the target of bitter criticisms, he certainly was very rich. He was a man of influence and power, with considerable financial strength and know-how.

He was assassinated along with Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa in the January 15, 1966 military coup which terminated the Nigerian First Republic, and thus civilian rule. 


2) Carter Bridge, Lagos, Nigeria.








The Carter Bridge built in 1901 is one of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland, the other two being the Third Mainland and Eko bridges.

The Carter Bridge was originally constructed by the British colonial government, prior to Nigerian independence in 1960. After independence, the bridge was dismantled, redesigned and rebuilt during the late 1970s
